Bard Powerport and Angiodynamics Smart Port problems
In 2020, the FDA announced a recall for three models of the Bard PowerPort due to problems with the tip. In 2021, they announced a recall for the Angiodynamics Smart Port. Both of these recalls were terminated in 2022.
Although the FDA terminated its recall of these port catheters, it received multiple adverse event reports (AERs) that detailed device fracture, port catheter migration and significant blood clots. The AER’s indicate that there may indeed be serious problems with the Bard SmartPort and Angiodynamics SmartPort devices.
